Bill Evans – Symbiosis (1974) (Audio)

Screen Shot 2014-05-07 at 10.20.26 PMYes, this is Jazz, but not your typical Jazz. Symbiosis by jazz legend Bill Evans is a masterpiece involving an entire orchestra, worthy of being a score to a film. Although Bill Evans worked extensively with Miles Davis (most notably, Kind of Blue), there are no names that grab your attention as legendary jazzmen, but the musicianship on this album is amazingly skillful and unique.

Bill Evans’ career spanned many decades. Most conventional jazz artists who were prominent in the 50s and 60s entered the 70s with a different sound and style which would consist of a fusion of funk, abstractness, soul, or some other twist on the typical sound of jazz. On Symbiosis, Bill Evans took the sounds of jazz and turned them into an entire body emotion and feeling that was not typical for jazzmen of the previous era.

Beautiful throughout, Symbiosis is a unique breath of fresh air that is an enjoyable wave of emotions.
