Bio: AbJo, known to some as Abstract Jones and The Midnight Kid, is a 22 year old beatmaker and hip hop/soul music producer from San Diego. Both a classically-trained and jazz-reared drummer/percussionist and violinist, Aaron “AbJo” Nash is a student to hip hop, jazz and soul music alike. His music career officially began in high school, gigging small shows around San Diego and grabbing a few highlights from bigger events around town playing his alma mater orchestra and jazz band, of the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts. His beatmaking career didn’t begin, however, until his very first day at San Diego State University, where he began his study of “the art of flippin’ samples and choppin’ up drums”. Now an affiliate and contributor of The Soul Dojo (www.souldojo.com) and figurehead for Anime4breakfast’s “Midnight Kids” collective (www.anime4breakfast.com/blog), AbJo has grown musically, sonically and ephemerally into his own, serving up lush harmonies, intricate grooves and neck-breaking beats into beat tapes and integral works on his bandcamp (abjo.bandcamp.com). Aside from his own work, the likes of singer/songwriter Carlitta Durand (of North Carolina fame and collaborations with Grammy-nominated producer Nicolay) , rapper extraordinaire Illecism of the Fly High crew, and others have worked with the beat crafter, affectionately known as “The Midnight Kid: Your favorite midnight miscreant, at your service”…
